10,000 Degrees invites qualifying seniors graduating from select Bay Area high schools who plan to attend four-year colleges to apply to the Meritus College Fund. Awarded students receive scholarships and one-on-one support as well as career development and paid internship opportunities.
Eligibility:
- Graduating senior from a Bay Area high school, including:
- San Francisco – SFUSD, Archbishop Riordan, and Immaculate Conception Academy
- Mid Peninsula – Boys & Girls Club Peninsula
- San Jose – Andrew Hill and Yerba Buena
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 – 3.7 (unweighted)
- Demonstrate financial need
- Plan to attend a four-year accredited college
Applicants should also be able to demonstrate a record of personal achievement, including:
- Academic preparation to succeed in college
- Ability to address and overcome challenges
- Quality involvement with others at work or school or in the community
- Focus in pursuing higher education en route to post-graduate goals

- Short Response: “Why Meritus College Fund? Briefly explain how becoming a Meritus College Fund Scholar will further impact your academic, professional and personal development. Also, which component of the Meritus College Fund program excites you most.” (Max. 250 words)
- Personal Essay: “The lessons we take from obstacles or setbacks we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, what steps did you take to overcome it, and what did you learn from the experience?” (750 words max)
